Light projections - dimentions variable, Providence, RI.
For the 1999 Convergence International Art Festival the artist projected symbols of men and women on walls throughout downtown Providence, RI. These figures, based on the international symbols for men and women, were in groups of three. Each triad included the standard boy or girl symbol and two additional figures.
These addtional figures are stylistically similar to the standard boy or girl symbol, but portray different physiques that can be seen around us. The standard symbols stood in comparison to symbols that more accurately describe the diversity of the general population. As people moved throughout the city they saw various triads in different locations. These groupings raised the question, "Who are you?"
