"Warning Signs" - 2003
Silk-screened aluminium - 99" x 99" - Brickbottom Gallery, Somerville, MA.
Each aluminium sign, fabricated to highway standards, has a black silhouette tree silk screened onto a fluorescent yellow background. In this work the artist used these symbol/signs to address issues of: the singular vs. the multiple, natural vs. machine made, the pastoral vs. the planned, and the generic vs. the unique. This work served to focus attention on the use of signs and symbols that can undermine our understanding as well as illuminate it.
